Her first exposure to music was through the instrument of trumpet. The classical, jazz, and hip-hop education began when she grew up. As a student, she majored in journalism and women's studies at college, even taking classes in Mandarin in Beijing for a stint. After graduating, she began to concentrate on music. After becoming famous through the Internet, her song My Vag was a reaction to Mickey Avalon's My Dick. It eventually became a part of her album debut Yellow Ranger. The album also featured sensational hits such as body-positive Queef and a winking, hometown tour NYC Bitche$1. The latter was associated with Awkwafina's NYC and 2015 travel guide.
